Mark your calendars for 2009! The 135th Nevada State Fair will be held August 26-30 2009.
See and support our local youth involved in 4-H and FFA. Youth events range from small animal shows to beef, sheep, swine and goats for market or for breeding. Fair entries in livestock competition consist of animal categories such as, dairy cattle, Hereford cattle, horse, sheep, market goats, dairy goats, swine and rabbit to name a few. Also included in the livestock category are dog and guinea pig. One of the favorite competitions is the dog competition. Young 4-H ers from the age of 5 can enter and show their dog, knowledge of animal care and obedience training skills. The health of the animal is judged as well as the demeanor of the dog. Whether you live on a ranch, in a small town or in a city the Nevada State Fair has something to offer for all. The goal is to see more children from non-rural areas ask about 4-H or FFA in their cities or towns and get involved. Having more children enter the livestock competition will also expose each of the children to seeing the other categories and is always good for raising awareness of 4H and spurring interest in the fair. Details about the Livestock competition, Creative Living and Home Arts contests, including entrants and prizes are available by contacting the Nevada State Fair office 1350-A No. Wells Ave. in Reno or call (775) 688-5767 or visit our website at www.nvstatefair.com
