Bouncer Beat a Man Unconscious In Ferocious Attack

This dramatic CCTV footage of the incident was shown throughout a two-day trial. Police later described the incident as shocking 'due to its ferocity'.

Michael Floyd (circled in red in the above footage) pleaded guilty to common assault.

The footage was shot around 5am on Sunday, November 15, 2009, outside Maxine's at the Octagon in Union Street.

The court had already heard how trouble flared when three builders from Halifax in Yorkshire, who had been working at a Derriford sports club, went out on the town. The court heard they were refused admission to Maxine's and they saw a woman being ejected by door staff.

Floyd, aged 26 and of Clowance Street, Devonport, who had previously admitted punching Ashley White, pleaded guilty earlier this week to common assault -- a punch to the head -- on John Whitely.

Mr Sellick, on Tuesday, said the CCTV showed Floyd punching Mr White at least six times, putting him to the ground.

The judge, Mr Recorder Adam Vaitilingam QC, told the jury following the verdict: "It is quite obvious that what happened that night was largely down to the stupidity and criminal behaviour of Mr Floyd."

Following the trial, Pc Penny Loftus-Campbell, of Charles Cross police, said: "This was the most horrific incident that I have ever witnessed on CCTV.

"It shocked a lot of officers due to its ferocity."

After the trial, Ben Holmes told The Herald he was 'happy with the verdict'.

All three bouncers lost their door licenses.
