A federal jury began deliberations Friday in the federal mortgage fraud trial involving former Jackson County Executive Katheryn Shields and her husband.
Jurors went home late Friday afternoon and will reconvene Monday morning.
Prosecutors claim Shields and her husband, Phil Cardarella, were part of a mortgage fraud scheme involving the sale of the couple's home in the fall of 2006. KMBC's Micheal Mahoney reported that federal prosecutors told jurors that "It is incredible and unbelievable that former Jackson County Executive didn't know the details on the sale of her own house."
When she took the stand on Thursday, Shields said she had little involvement and left the details of the sale to her husband.
The lawyer for Shields and Cardarella told jurors the couple is being prosecuted because of who they are.
