Afro Soul Encaustic Part 1

This is my first attempt at painting a representational picture and not an abstract using the encaustic process....well it's a little cartoonish, but again this was my first try. It was pretty intense. It took about 6 hours to complete this piece which is done on a wood panel with covered with gesso'ed canvas.

This piece is almost complete. I just have some back filling to do and will upload the final steps in a couple of days.

For those of you that are curious, encaustic painting is an art technique that involves heated was colored with pigments. In the case of this piece I used oil pastels for the colorant.
