Every year since 1967 a surf contest has been held at Leucadia's Stone Steps. The first was the 33rd Annual Invitational Surf Contest and Love-In. And it's still going on. Photography and narration by Richard Dowdy.

Stone Steps......wow what memories. Im a San Dieguito 1970 grad and remember many times going there for any number or reasons.......:) Was there last year to sit and watch the sun set, sure loved it then just as in the past.

What a GREAT show!!! I recognize a lot of peeps being born and raised in Encinitas!
I was at the contest in '75 or '76 (quite the young lass then in high school) and it's possibly the coolest gig I've ever attended; it was ALSO the day of my most embarrassing moment when my DAD found out I went... he came down, actually FOUND me in the crowd and bellowed, "Young lady, you better get your butt up those stairs and in the car NOW!" Not sure, but I don't think I've been to 'The Steps' since!
