This video will explain what ridge vent is, how it works, how it is installed and how effective it is. for more information go to http://www.allproroof.com
@mesheme84 find out what the airflow is through your gable vents and see if its enough for your attic. measure LXW of your attic and see how much venting you'd need. Once you have this number simply make sure your gabble vents have the same intake of air as your ridge vent has outtake (this depends on how long of a ridge you make in your ridge vent).
im studying this now, doing my ridge vent now........confirm with others.

I don't have any soffit vents to my attic, and it stays cool with large gable vents on east and west side of house.
