From their excellent 1981 album Green Fields, which is packed with English gems. My favorite English folk album. Mike, Lal and Norma Waterson and Martin Carthy sing, a cappella, in perfect harmony.

This recording has gone from vinyl, to tape, to cd, to digital file.

This song is the ancestor of Led Zeppelin's Gallows Pole.

  • I've loved traditional music since the late sixties revival and have listened to countless great recordings - but I haven't heard anything more lovely and which better captures the essence of the genre than this - the richness of the harmonies is incredible and I never tire of hearing it. Great up - your musical taste is sublime , phoebus !
