From their excellent 1981 album Green Fields, which is packed with English gems. My favorite English folk album. Mike, Lal and Norma Waterson and Martin Carthy sing, a cappella, in perfect harmony.
This recording has gone from vinyl, to tape, to cd, to digital file.
This song is the ancestor of Led Zeppelin's Gallows Pole.
I've loved traditional music since the late sixties revival and have listened to countless great recordings - but I haven't heard anything more lovely and which better captures the essence of the genre than this - the richness of the harmonies is incredible and I never tire of hearing it. Great up - your musical taste is sublime , phoebus !
