Short trailer of aviation preflight indoctrination (API). This is the first phase of training all USN/USMC aviators undergo (API) at NAS Pensacola. The course covers 6 intense weeks of academics and water survival.

Trust me, I am in this program right now, and there are no enlisted going through this course. I am sure they have something similar, but Aviation Preflight Indoctrination is only for Naval Aviators, Naval Flight Officers, and their Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Air Force equivalents.

I remember the altitude chamber from about 40 years ago while in the USMC as a 2ndLt. The exercise I was given was to write my full name repeatedly on a paper with clipboard. The first six times was no problem, the next six times I had to concentrate on how to spell my name with each line becoming more difficult, the next six times was trying recall if my middle or first name was my first name and by line 21 trying to recall what my name even was. I still have that paper.

This video depicts Aviation Preflight Indoctrination. The only ones who go through API are pilots, navigators and flight docs, hence only officers. There are similar schools and training for enlisted personnel, but it is not shown in this video. Marcsijames asked specifically about flight school and API, and I replied saying that he needed to go to college so he could become and officer. If you are a crewman like you say you are then you did not go through API.
