@ninjadann yes, qigong along with shaolin and WC training helps me stand out in sports and the police academy for my power/ stamina with calm attitude. Too bad I started too late to be a standout in professional sports.
Sadly, once you put mysticism into it then the average westerner will poo poo anything to do with chi. Some will even avoid schools that incorporate it into the curriculum. Thankfully WC is very subtle in training it (it's very visible in Siu lim tao to those who know).

@IPC203 As a practitioner of CHI / QI Gong myself, i didn't want to get into the details. In summary it is the control of blood flow in your body. Yes breathing is a fundamental part of CHI, where it helps balance the body from the internals and externals. Chi is ery mysterious in the effects of every person!. It all comes down to belief. The more you have it, the more you gain. cheers

@ninjadann Not just blood flow but better control of breathing for better stamina, power and concentration. The breathing ensures that you are also massaging the organs as you inhale/ exhale by way of diaphragm. It's too bad westerners would rather remain ignorant about the underlying methods used in chi/ qi gong.

@Handspoken Supernatural power is a broad term and we may both interpret that in different ways. The extent of CHI is to control the blood flow. As simple as that. Obviously it's applications can be very diverse. To adding power and control in MA, faster regeneration, healthier internal organs, etc. I don't want to say it can cure cancer, but it can definitely slow it down. Apparently it can even make someone immortal, Li Ching-Yuen. cheers

@Handspoken your message is contradictory. your perception is still narrow. it's great that you are learning, but never shun out/ignore the things you don't understand. im talking about the "chi" part in ur message.

Mr Wong Shun Leung the best student Mr Ip Man had, A true Grand Master we should be happy video's like this exists!

do we have to mirror this or can we just follow it?

Ving Tsun is meant to be simple. Whenever it needs fancy or hair-raising explanations, you know that something is wrong.
@bungieftw1990 you don't "fight like this", it's merely just one (basic) solo-exercise. Imagine a guitar player slowly practising a scale or makes warm-up exercises.... In this case, a concept of elbow/hip/ankle positioning is trained, nothing more really.
-
@bungieftw1990 It is hard to understand, from simply looking, what application this has to real fighting. This exercise teaches proper structure, rooting, and energy movement. These ideas, once internalized, are applicable to actual fighting.
-
@bungieftw1990 It's been said that you learn the movement alot better like this. If you look closely some are done fast other slow. Its for muscle memory or something like that. Ever seen tai chi?
@BULLSHIT123xx: My master Gary Lam is a student of Huang Liang (Wong Shen Leung), and it's been said that even Bruce Lee himself on his visits back to HK to spar with Master Wong, Bruce still had problems beating him. Master Wong's lineage is still by far one of the deadliest of all the WC lineages. Don't worry about the keyboard warriors. It's better that people stay ignorant, so you have less idiots disgracing the WC name...they can all go take UFC MMA if I care. LOL

@cwmak70
"He modified a little bit of the form to cater for his experience..."
And that is totally cool. I do Ip Ching WC, & Ip has modifed a few little things here and there because that's what's worked for him. Hell, I'VE modified a few things too. I think it's perfectly fine to change things in WC as long as you're honest about it ("Here's what I changed, & here's why"), and as long as you know the original way was done (ie, the way Ip Man originally taught it).
