Lady Be Good - George Wein and his Newport All Stars 1974
George Wein put an amazing cast of All Stars together for his 1974 European tour. The musicians had just arrived in Copenhagen. Unfortunately their luggage had not. In this concert George Wein explains why the members looked scruffy, but the music certainly does not sounds scruffy.
These All Stars open their program with a fast Lady Be Good. Inspiration is right there, instantly! ..... and what a cast!
Ruby Braff cornet, Barney Kessel guitar, Red Norvo on borrowed vibes,
George Wein piano, Larry Ridley bass and Don Lamond drums.
One way or another I had overlooked this video clip and never posted this glorious performance before!
Barney Kessel swangs.
