Lady Be Good - George Wein and his Newport All Stars 1974
George Wein put an amazing cast of All Stars together for his 1974 European tour. The musicians had just arrived in Copenhagen. Unfortunately their luggage had not. In this concert George Wein explains why the members looked scruffy, but the music certainly does not sounds scruffy.
These All Stars open their program with a fast Lady Be Good. Inspiration is right there, instantly! ..... and what a cast!
Ruby Braff cornet, Barney Kessel guitar, Red Norvo on borrowed vibes,
George Wein piano, Larry Ridley bass and Don Lamond drums.
One way or another I had overlooked this video clip and never posted this glorious performance before!

  • Barney Kessel swangs.

  • If you don't swing with this, call the undertaker.

  • do you have a video of the number featuring barney kessel on this date that was a medley of maha de carnival and samba de orfeo?

  • I saw some of the guys in 1984 in my hometown -- a gig I will never forget.

For more splendid jazz, feel free to drop by my blog (link in profile).

Thanks for the fantastic upload & All best,
