This is the introduction to a tribute video I put together for my brother's 18th birthday party. Using Adobe After Effects, I was able to animate pictures without having to use Adobe Photoshop.
The process involved creating two mattes (the original photo + the photo with just my brother cut out). Overlapping the two pictures in the After Effects project allowed me to animate each photo to make it appear as if my brother was jumping out of the photo. The hardest part of this process was erasing the background around my brother. I am well aware of Adobe Photoshop's capabilities but I wanted to put the After Effects application to work in a similar manner. After Effects does allow you to erase the background much similar to Photoshop, but it does take time.
Once that was accomplished, the possibilities that could be achieved were endless. There were a couple photos that I used completely different backgrounds and superimposed the cut-out image of my brother over that image (i.e. the soccer photo and the two beach photos). I posted this video to show some of the neat things you can do with After Effects.

@jeetdg2012, at the time I did this video, I erased the background image with the eraser function. This was a real pain as it took a lot of patience, time, and will power. I did this in after effects but it can also be done in photoshop. Since then, I have have discovered a new tool in After Effects CS5 callede the rotobrush. I really can't believe how much easier it is to do this now. Check out the following website because you can now do this not only with still pictures but live video!
