Nuclear Poetry: Halloween Edition brought us to new territory. The use of words coupled with projections, music, fog, visual artwork and the simple message of not being afraid of the dark started the night. 9 featured readers and 2 visual artists shared their work + a handful of poets read at the open mic. Magic. Their videos can be seen on the channel.

When thinking of the dark nature of this time of year, this is what came to mind to present at the Nuclear Poetry Halloween Show. As it began, images of SF Artist Robert Hammond's bizarrely beautiful artwork projected across the room, THEN the room filled with fog as the ghosts of Poe, Kafka and Willy Shakespeare were summoned in a sequence not fit for those with epilepsy or the faint of [tell-tale] heart. The last sequence, "Let Your Mind Wander" is part of a larger project that host Aaron Wimmer is working on.

Nuclear Poetry takes the audience into a 'literary bomb shelter' for a night of spoken word by candlelight with the message that everyone has a voice.

It was formed as an experiment to get New School poetry students together to share their work for a night. People seemed to like it and the series was born.

An amazing thing happened in the months that followed: people started coming and a strong community began to grow, and with it came a real sense of spirit filling the room during the shows. The event is now in its second year.

Every show is different, often taking inspiration from current headlines and events. Readers for the night include writers of all ages and levels...professors, published writers, students and beginners. Some quiet, some loud, some traditional, some experimental. It's everyone's night.

Please join us, bring an open heart and love for writing and let's make some magic.

Rob Hammond is from SF, CA - Hes a self-taught chef and student of the arts - Painting and creating art is his obsession, he wants to be a sculptor. Hes fascinated by paint. He works with all acrylic and water based mediums, metals, sand, pumice, glitter and polymer gel mediums. He uses Elbows, hands, kitchen utensils and scrapers. Heat is used for certain effects. He never paints with the black light on, he likes to be surprised. Fluorescent painting came to him by accident. Totally unaware, when a friend turned on his black light one halloween three years ago, Rob remembered that in a much older painting hed made used neon paints. It was so beautiful. We stared at it all night and I took lots of photo's. It has been a source of wonder for him ever since. He has a studio in his garage called the Dungeon, a place where he goes to turn all negative into positive. Devouring Darkness.
