a helicopter is a different animal, and will only autorotate if the pilot has practiced the emergency procedure (the rotor has to be positioned in a specific way for autorotation). an autogyro will do it automatically if the main engine cuts out, unless one 'unloads' the rotor (at some critical angle of attack).

the original name for these machines is autogyro, and that is the very thing it will do if the engine cuts out, autorotate safely to a (hopefully with practice) safe landing! with training, autogyros are the safest powered flyers.
