If they'd carried on making new episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, it may have looked something like this...

  • Star trek has been used to death now, I am a big fan of it but the only way for it to move forwards was Enterprise. Now thats out of the window there isn't really much a new series would do.

  • @TheWoWFAIL Riker is captain of the USS Titain

  • @Perion They could. But like we both have said: first we need a new series in the prime reality. All power to Jonathan Frakes.

  • @ben091294 If they find the political stuff is really starting to take over the show from the exploration, and if Titan becomes successful, then they could easily make a DS9 like spinoff with similar success.

  • @Perion Voyager had lots of things that bugged me (characters, technobabble). But they had a good general goal for the series; returning to an exploration-type setting which got lost a bit in DS9 (which I liked better, I'm just saying). But yes, Voyager let their technobabble get the better of them, the other series didn't. And another reason I suggested STO is because the Klingons are at war with the Federation again. I miss that, even though TNG/DS9 produced good Klingon characters.

  • @ben091294 STO has a handful of things here and there that would be good, the uniforms for example (not the regular ones but the 200 day Veteran ones) are like a cross between the Wrath of Khan style uniforms and the First Contact style, and would work really well I feel. also I would hope they would keep the Technobable to a minimum, and use real words as much as possible, as well as keep consistent with the ones they make up. It really got out of hand in Voyager.

  • @ben091294 I didn't much like Sela, I mean if they give her character better plots and plans than the kind you would expect Dr.Evil to make then yeah, but from what little we saw of her in TNG left me unimpressed.

  • @ben091294 As I said, the E could be mentioned in the series, even have a communication where we hear Data's voice (but not see his face) and yes, it would be nice if Frakes does succeed. But CBS seems to be of the mind that it was making Trek films and TV series at the same time that doomed the franchise, even though it was just the fact that Nemesis and Enterprise sucked so bad that really killed it.

  • @Perion (I know Data died, but B4 basically received all his memories). Anyway, that is sad, that Brent left the role. Anyway, Frakes isn't a half-bad director, and I sincerely hope he succeeds. We need to keep expanding the final frontier, we can't go back (my main problem with ST: Enterprise, but the Abrams movie wasn't horrible). Anyway, CBS would be wise to start a new Trek series now, due to the heightened awareness of the franchise thanks to Abrams.

  • @Perion I'd be happy with that. I just don't want to see the "prime reality" disappear in the wake of the new timeline. And yes, political fracturing in the Romulan Star Empire would be a great central plot for a lot of good potential episodes. It would also make an opening for Denise Crosby to come back as Sela (the one enemy we didn't see enough of in TNG). Honestly, Star Trek Online (STO), while not canon and not widely played, actually set a good stage for a new series.
