@wizarred Jewels are from rivers in west Africa and need water parameters similar to south/central american cichlids not the hard water of the rift lakes plus they need a high protein diet to thrive where the Malawi cichlds require one with less protein.

Hey cichlidjack, I have reasearched the subject and there actually is a small window frame of water conditions where they are the same and can coexist.

jewels are from the rivers not the lakes water condition is so different they should not be in there

i have mostly mbuna in my 75 but i have a jewel and a hab in there also, no major issues yet. a little chasing out of each others territory but thats about it.

I have kept jewels for years they are very hardy! And you can treat ick don't just let it take over!!! I put a electric blur Johannii fish in with my jewels and he was bullying everyone. So had to pull him!

I have my Jewels with malawis too and with tangajikas there are no fights
No fights? Or are the Jewels starting to pick out the Africans now? Jewel fish are from Africa by the way. Nice how you have them in there with no fights, I have one jewel fish that I have to keep in a separate 10 gal tank because he is too aggresive.

I never saw them fight; It was a big community (35 fish) so the agression are easily distracted.

75 Gallon. I just upgraded to 125 gallon though.
