i've beaten that boss, but then later i don't get any new lvl which is mr dark. the thing is do i need to destroy all those cages ?

To get to the final level, you need all of the cages.

If you instantly punch at him when he fires his beam, he's a lot easier. You don't even have to jump or avoid them.
