I'm an old fashioned recovering "photojournalist" (to give it a label) and said many a thing on radio and tv interviews that mirrored Mr Anderson's words in the sense I was keen.
From what I remember of pressing the shutter in moments of tension is that there is no time for an editorial. 125th of a second doesn't allow it. Only later did I have time to ponder and make comments. When I did I did it for mown ego and self promotion. Really the photographs should speak for themselves.
well to be honest i'd disagree with you...not many people know Christopher Anderson and what he does. Jian is there to describe to the listens who and what Christopher is all about - Each question seems well thought out, the right ones to ask particularly to those who don't really know very much about documentary photography. I'm pleased with the way the interview comes across. Portrays the right attitudes that surround the job! More so for those who actually care about what pictures they take.
Christopher Anderson is a great photographer and seems like a clever and sympathetic man, but what a pity the host of Qtv, appears to be just another interviewer who's more interested in elaborating on the questions himself rather than leaving Chris time to talk. I've seen the interview three times, and Jian Ghomeshi takes up about ¾ of the talking time. I wonder how much time Chris Anderson spent getting to that studio. Indeed, Ghomeshi (himself) sat down and talked about photojournalism etc.
