President of Al-Azhar University and former Mufti of Egypt, Dr Ahmed Al-Tayyeb comments on the Islamic policy of Wife Beating.

Again these are not fringe ideas in the Islamic world view. This is general knowledge stuff.

Along the way we need to remember that no-one suffers more from these laws and doctrines than the people that live in this culture.

Let the evidence speak for itself.

  • so, in fact, wife beating is allowed in islam.

  • well if you create guidelines around how to do something "properly" then you can assume the general behavior is sanctioned yes. it also has guides on even more unsavory things like , beastiality (im not kidding) , execution and subjugation of other people (unbelievers like us) and more. Wow it would be funny if whole masses of the population were not taking it all seriously. I'm waiting for any Muslim (even on the internet where we have real anonimity) to come out and be open about any of this.

  • Just thought of letting u guys know what the quran and hadiths allows and doesnt allow but if u guys still insist in putting black sheeps as example of how its like, then ''to you, your beliefs, to me, my own.''just dont spread wrong infos cus it'll only lead to hatred..we all dont want tt..thanks.

  • Dude this is a mainstream Arab television program. Don't even try to feed us this crap about how we have wrong information. Sure there are always exceptions but do you really think things are equal in the world of Islam between men and women? Come on. Yeah things can be fucked up in the west too (its not a competition) but we have laws against violence, not condoning it. We certainly don't have conversations about when its acceptable to beat your wife!

  • i like when he says " A woman's weapon is the ability to seduce her husband" WTF- thats mans weapon too!!..he needs to be able to please his partner!!..WEIRRRRRD

  • Definitely Weird. It makes sense within the overall context of Islam and the example of Muhammad. I imagine the fear is that the woman will soften their resolve for Jihad and "infect" them with the potential for kindness and compassion. Thats why its a freakish achievement of sorts that women send their own sons on suicide bombings. Sad. Thank you for your comments.

  • "This only pertains to rebellious woman who don't do what they're told . . . to bring them back to their senses".

The inherent violence is obvious. It doesn't even occur to either of them to question whether a woman might exist for some reason other than to obey a man, or whether physical abuse is moral. It says it's OK in a book, so it must be, right?

All the while claiming to be a religion of peace and equality and completely oblivious to the hypocrisy.

  • @truthchannel true - to say when it is allowed (and be the conditions as strict as you wish) means to actually promote and allow it as a whole. violence in the family, especially against physically weaker or financially dependent ones, is one of the most evil things in the world and it must be banned no ifs and buts, only that is justice for the weaker one

  • @Zeek19 i can see your point in many inciting websites who hate the Islamic religion deeply (and at the same time often promote other religions, which all of their own issues too). but this is egyptian tv, and the former president of AL-AZHAR. I'm sure you know contemporarily al azhar is considered the centre of Sunni Islam like Rome is for catholics.

  • knowing that Woman gives birth to humans, man is just a tool of baby making, but if you have sex inside marriage with love and kindness, that is rewarded with blessing. But if you "mediocre husband" force the wife to have sex cuz you have man "needs" that puts you on rape category.

  • So the creed of typical evil muslim is : The protector (husband) can BEAT the weaker of the two (wife, wives) he is to be protecting.

Also "if they're old enough to bleed, they're old enough to breed".

So for typical evil muslim from Satan's filthy quran claims typical evil muslim men should treated the bad wife, wives like she's a stubborn farm animal.

  • Dumb thing to say he needs to think it over. The beatings would eventually lead to divorce anyway and destruction of the family as he put it so what's the point? If a husband has to resort to hitting his wife than maybe they weren't supposed to be together in the first place.A man can't put hands on a woman that is a very cowardly thing to do.Does that make you feel more manly? Controlling or hurting someone that is obviously weaker.

  • I'm a white, Catholic American. I am fascinated with the middle east. My aunt is currently living in Dubai and I'm taking Arabic language @my highschool. Here we have two views on Muslims in the middle east. 1: They're all extremists out to kill us. 2: They're all peaceful, misunderstood people who are just trying to make the world a better place. ( kind of ironic considering Sep.'01)

  • you know what after a lot of thinking I don't have a problem with burkas because the burka protects you from being stared at and looked at in a wrong way or in a jealous way by other females.I think americans especially white ppl seem to only care about the outer appearances and most lack in inner beauty this is becoming worse & worse. But I don't agree with wife beating what happens if the husband is wrong? But I guess there's no such thing in islam the husband can never be wrong, right?
