After the reported death of Al Qaeda founder and patron Osama bin Laden, the Department of National Defense's of the Philippines Secretary Voltaire T. Gazmin and Spokesman Eduardo G. Batac assures the Filipino people that the defense establishment remains on alert over possible revenge attacks. Gazmin advised the public not to let their guard down against possible terror attacks but downplayed fears stating that the Philippines is a low level target. The Department praised the United States and Pakistan operations and hailed it as a victory against terror. The death of Bin Laden is also seen as a possible decimation of Al Qaeda sponsored terror groups in Southeast Asia as led by Indonesian based Jemayah Islamiyah and the Philippines' Abu Sayyaf.
