Very informative! Naha te considers Sanchin to be the essence of Karate, while Shuri te considers Naihanchi. In this terrific demonstration the use of the tanden shows the unifying element in both traditions. Sensei is very generous in his revelation."The good student needs only one corner to know a triangle." Thanks for the post.
First @jdtwk123 That step across is called "water" and most of the joint locks are "fire" I use that stance quite a lot to when doing tapi tapi. @Karatekid68, you're an idiot. Just because it's not your style, doesn't mean it's wrong. I think he done it perfectly. The "Iron Horse" Kata's are beautiful work. This guy is amazing, at first I thought it was slow, but I've tried doing forms slow while teaching, and they take a different kind of skill. Great job.
Actually, that is easily the most sophisticated use of pelvic rotation and hip movement I have seen. Not only is it NOT wrong, it is very very advanced. Of course, if you want to post a video of you doing the kata the "right" way, I'd love to see it. In any event, it is very far from wrong indeed.
Naihanchi footwork is subtle but very powerful and advanced footwork, once one understands its application. Different schools teach different versions of naihanchi, but the footwork is superior to many systems and other katas, even within karate. I have some opinion on this shown version, but that is irrelevant. The naihanchi step-across gives great defense and positioning against a variety of offensive moves.
Very impressive.
