I just used 3 still jpeg images to to this animation in After effects. As you can see, the picture of forrest got some depth, just like shooting with camera. It's the technic called projection which I learned watching one tutorial from videocopilot.net. You basicly create 3D model that looks similar like the picture and then project original picture to the 3D model. Of course some adjustments has to be made, but basicly that's the idea. Than you can add some elements to the picture, that everything looks more realistic. In this case, the road signs, shadow on the grass and leafs falling. In the end, still picture looks like shoot made with camera.
