Now let me see....proficiency on their instruments (no tracks), tight harmonies live singing (no backing vocal tracks), dancing & stepping while playing instruments (no backup dancers). What R&B act can do that today?????? Can anyone say "self -contained"???

OMG!!!! I miss this kind of stuff!!! Bring back the 70's funk bands!!!!!

LaPread (bass) was solid & steadily funky with Orange (drums), whose beats were always "in the pocket. McClary (guitar) interacted with Orange& LaPread & Williams (keyboards) interacted with the horns & gave atmosphere to the power funk trio of LaPread,Orange & McClary & Lionel sang the songs & hyped the crowd & made this Chicago/ Fleetwood Mac -hybrid tune from "Natural High" FUNKY. "Flying High" written by McClary & Richie. SMOOTH,CREAMY, EASY LISTENING FUNK !!! COMMODORES FOREVER (1974-82).

The Commodores concert music sounds like their recording studio music!! How marvelous. I do not think today's artists even try to duplicate studio sound when on stage. Great concert this was!!!
this was the first concert i ever saw. at the fabulous forum in inglewood, ca 1978. This was in support of NATURAL HIGH not Midnight Magic. they were a great band and i loved seeing them, but to tell you the truth LTD (w/jeffrey osborne) outperformed and outplayed them that night!

@1980Triumph - I'm positive I saw this show in Pittsburgh and couldn't remember the opening act... was it 3 acts that opened with LTD, then Ashford & Simpson and closed with the Commodores?
