@Shaysailor I don't even find the smooth texture of the paper all that interesting for pencil. I have a few of them that I hardly ever use, not even 1/3 full.

@zipchips have you tried to gesso them? I personally do not like the regular moleskine sketchbook paper. It's too smooth, no tooth at all. The only good thing is that the paper is thick, and you can gesso without it warping

LOVE your style, Lydia!! Bravo!! So beautiful and loose and busy!! wish i could loosen up....wish I could draw faces with your skill......struggling....:/

@JanVowlesTala I agree, I don't know why so many people use Moleskines and have to compensate for the thin paper when you could buy or make a journal with paper that can handle mixed media. Moleskine was apparently a fad for generation Y, they really are not good for anything but pencil. However tons of people are willing to waste time and materials compensating so maybe there is some kind of magic to them that eludes me!

I love it! Thanks for sharing your work :)

Fantastic, it's everything I love in a journal: sketches, paint, collage, journaling. It's rich and layered and fascinating to look at. It's as good as anything I've seen, better than most, including published work. You should be published in a book like 1000 Artist Journal Pages or one of Danny Gregory's books. I wish I could sketch and draw as well as you. thanks for sharing your beautiful journal.

These books are no good for sketching and using colour...and you paste paper on every other page...so why use them??? Makes more sense to use a proper sketchbook...Very nice work though, very nice indeed...but i'd buy a better book ;)

what medium did you use for the colors, does it handle watercolor well ?
-
They are cool for writing on though, yeah? I'm considering getting the large one (ruled) for doing some writing - it'll be okay, yeah?
no it doesn't handle watercolor well. It is thin paper. I used some of my childrens markers. they were very old and mostly dried up. I also used watercolor sometimes but very dry. when the ink showed through on the other side I glued a piece of paper to draw on the side that had markings I didn't want to show. Thanks for asking. are the pages thin or thick in the cahier? I'm thinking about using them for my art students, since they are more affordable than the sketchbook moleskines.

VERY thin
thats why I collage or paste paper every other page. draw or paint on one side, paper on the other
