When I was in high school in San Diego, yes I was....and still am.....a surfer, I actually wore white levi's, low black tennis shoes, and a pendleton shirt. I didn't have the surfer hat though. In the early 60' most of the surfers dressed this way. It was kind of the early surfer look. This song was kind of popular with the surfer crowd of course and then when lots of wanna bees starting dressing this way we switched to Madras shirts and the Cholos started wearing the Pendletons.

remember hearing this on AM radio in 1963 ...unfortunately it failed to make the Hot 100....didn't hear it again until the late 90's when my daughter found the 45 at a record show and gave it to me
