Mary (Patty Griffin Cover)

I heard this song on Internet radio a while back and fell in love with it. Like "Hallelujah", this song is a contemporary twist on Biblical stories/figures that still manages to respect the original source. Also like "Hallelujah", this song names specific people while leaving enough mystery that you'd have to know the source material in order to fill in the blanks. For example, the line "You greet another son, you lose another one" refers to Mary going into the care of John at the cross, where she loses her actual son. Patty's lyrics are powerful (through her work in general) and in this song I find beauty, humanity, comfort, sadness, and the various titles, depictions, and responsibilities of Jesus' mother, who, even after her son was gone, "stayed behind to clean up the place and always stayed Mary". In this song may you "Behold your Mother".

@AlwaysOnLookout It hasn't been tuned in over a decade--it's my parents'. Mine's a Roland, which is why I redid this song at my apartment & posted it as Mary (Roland version)...check it out. I've also commented on the piano being out of tune in other vids & even the previous comment on this page. Thanks for your time & for complementing my singing! I love this song & had to post it for anyone who may come across it for the first time this way. Let me know what you think of the other version.
