Name history of the Olympic Mountains:
"Sun-A-Do" - Duwamish Native Tribe.
1774 - "Sierra Nevada de Santa Rosalia" - named by Spanish Navigator Juan Perez.
1788 - "Mount Olympus" - named by John Meares.
1864 - "Olympic Mountains".
The English captain, John Meares found the mountains beautiful enough for the Gods to dwell there and named them Mount Olympus after the Greek counterpart. In 1864 the name Olympic Mountains was adopted.
