@1973teledeluxe Well said! & it gets me to thinking of the late, great Caldwell brothers & Toy with his unique thumb technique! & what a Southern Rock gig in Heaven, with them, Ronnie Van Zant, Billy Powell, Danny Joe Brown, Hughie Thomasson, to name a few.....
-
And Billy still shreds it as good as always. Go see them!!

Billy Crain is a guitar god! Thankfully, the current OUTLAWS [Henry Paul, Monte Yoho, Chris Anderson, Randy Threet, Billy Crain, and Dave Robbins] have included several HPB songs, including Grey Ghost, in their set list.

Sweet.

Wish talent like this was still around...
-
this is classic southern at its best

IMHO they didn't have the creative breadth and tension that the outlaws had with Hughie, Henry and Billy writing their own stuff and competing for album/live territory. But HPB had more cohesion, the drumming and especially bass work here is just outstanding. I hope this "player (not producer/engineer) first" style comes back for the under 35 set. Who wouldn't want to be a lead guitar hotdog? RIP Dave Feister (first guitar soloist). I liked HPB better too and outlaws were huge

Love the volume swells....

That is so oustanding. I remember when Henry was the original lead singer of the Outlaws, but I think this band of his tops the Outlaws. Talk about a guitar army, they show it here.

That ladies and gentlemen is a guitar solo - so sad you won't hear this talent in any of today's music. Glad this got on video for folks to see what great southern rock was like. Hat's off to you Mr. Crane!
