TEKsystems Excel Driven QTP Solution

This recording shows a basic hybrid keyword/data-driven automation framework utilizing only QTP and Microsoft Excel with no associated test management tools, and the subsequent execution of a test against the HP Demo Flight application. This demonstration shows how a stripped down framework could be used when necessary; however, it also illustrates the severe limitations inherent with an approach that does not take full advantage of a test management solution such as HP Quality Center. While Excel can be used to drive the scripts, there are no links for traceability, maintenance involves several flat files, and test artifacts require individual attention whenever something is changed as apposed to a solution that allows changes to filter through the framework.
