This dive took place under the ice at Turtle Rock, a small island located in McMurdo Sound. The dive was made during the month of October, springtime in Antarctica. Note the anchor ice which is seen on the seabed. Myriads of invertebrates can be seen in the water column, and a Weddell Seal (Leptonychotes weddellii) glides effortlessly in and around the divers.

that is not accurate, optically pure water has a maximum visibility of 98 meters. Around 328 feet.

  • In Antartica vis is usally 300 to 600 ft but it is reported that it can get up to 1000 ft at times.
