@Hotrodluvmut1 By the time Stude got around to introducing the Avanti and the fully-developed GT Hawk, it was too little, too late. Both were outstanding cars for their day, and they still demand a healthy premium today. But the engines still leaked (on the showroom floor!) and the rear axles still broke under a heavy foot, and the Avanti rear window simply blew off the car at speed. All that has been fixed today (and they use GM engines in the Avanti II), but back then it was a death-knell.

Thanks Jerry ~ one of my favorite American cars of all time. A buddy of mine had a brand new 1964 GT Hawk back when I was a kid. Hot stuff.
Your camera makes me seasick, buddy! Recommend using a Steady Stick under it, and pan FAR slower!

Were selling one in near to mint condition with a little over 2600 miles on it on k-bid.com. the car will be open to bid on for the next 7 days, and it is selling for $5000 right now. and no, I'm not joking. it has the 289 v8, Flight-o-matic transmission, and it has blue and white original sporty interior. Beautiful car just looking for a new home. so for anyone interested, feel free to bid!

Actually. Studes had V8 in 1951, around 230ci. First Hawks were in 56, called Flight (6), Power(289 V8), and Golden (352 ci Packard V8). In 57 the Golden Hawk got the Paxton-blown 289, because Packard went down. 59-61 Silver Hawks and sedans had 259 or a 6. 1962-64 they made the Gran Turismo Hawk, I think 289 ci. US prod. ended 1964, in CA they made sedans w/ 283 Chev, and others took the Avanti molds and made Avanti II's for many years, that co. tried ugly conv & 4dr models, screwed up.

@spdskte Fords first 289 was 1963. The first Studebaker 289 was in 1955. In 1962 Studebaker offered their super hawk. The upgrades were Disc brakes, a Paxton super charger on a 289 V-8, and a Four speed T-10 trans. In 1962 these upgrades made them top of the line! Top speed 140 MPH Why the Studebaker company failed I will never know!

@Hotrodluvmut1 was this the Ford 289 they used?...I didn't realize it was around at that time.
Now for the obvious question....what did you get for it?
