This is a spot repair (blow in) on the front of a dodge bumper. This is a metallic blue being blended and partially cleared. The tape on the edges is known in the auto body repair trade as a back mask where the clear is blended on the roll of an edge. This is in no way a top quality repair, it is an economical repair suited best for used car lots and lease return vehicle. I must say they do still hold up pretty well when done properly. The bumper was polished with a coarse compound for the blender to adhere while the rest of the area that was cleared got sanded with 3000 grit paper, except the primer was 600.

This was a scratch originally that was feathered out and primed. For more information check out our website at www.refinishnetwork.com

  • I am joining your forums now...but I have serious questions about BASF's training...and I have used some Diamont mixes and have been very happy with them. However, I have found unless the training comes from someone who actually does this for a living your training may not be worth beans!

As my wife often says...those who can't do teach! And that's usually because they can't get a job in the actual field they are teaching in!

  • I'm sure your right, just like when a product rep comes to show you how to repair a bumper when they've only done it once at there lab.

The guy that has always done mine seems really good. He was a painter for a lot of years too...I do know one instructor whom is a chemist, I don't know if he has a background in painting but sure is fun to BS with. I am pretty happy with Diamont but we are being legislated to waterborne (well 3.5 voc anyhow), our shops going with Glasurit 90 line in april.

  • btw, tell your wife i'm stealing that saying....that's a great line! lol

  • I watched another one of your videos and I was shocked...I posted a less than flattering comment...then read your response here and felt bad...so I removed the comment. You seem like a nice enough guy and I would rather not flame you. I will look for your site also!

  • no worry's. been there before, lol!

I do try and align the video's with the way BASF teaches the repair methods, Most of my training comes from them. I'm sure they can fall short in some area's. But like I said, I'd be interested in how you might do things different and maybe see if it can be applied in the future.

  • blender takes care of overspray

  • Great video. I have a question. The repaired area in the center is going to be smooth, but aren't you going to have some dry overspray on the rest of the bumper? Or does the blender take care of the overspray.

When I have a spot t repair, I usually scuff the whole piece, paint the damaged area, then reclear the whole thing. This would be much easier (and cost efficient).

  • How much would this cost for the whole car ???

  • cute arm!

  • this is cool, it makes me wanna learn how to do this.

  • Dude you rock! thanks to you and your excellent video I fixed my paint that had been nagging and distracting eyes ever since I bought my car a year ago ( I'm mechanically inclined, just never tried body work, ). Now I drive my ride with pride, it looks as good as runs. CHEERS!

  • Pedigree.... Yell yea

  • can i do a spot repair with a tri coat paint job? i feel like it would be impossible to match

  • Whats the spray can?

  • this is crazy demonstration.... trying hard....they dont know how to spray correctly and adjust the volume of fluid flow and volume of air. they don't know how to wear the mask..lol....
