In this workshop self-injury expert Dr. Harjit Aulakh and her colleague Dr. Mary Kay Nixon helped mental clinicians understand the experience and motivation of youth who self-injure, introduced the latest research on self-injury in youth, and provided practical strategies for working with youth struggling with self-injury.

Dr. Harjit Aulakh, PhD, completed her doctorate in psychology from McGill and currently works as a clinician with the Aboriginal Child and Youth Community Mental Health Centre in Victoria, providing therapeutic services for aboriginal youth of all ages. She develops and provides group therapy for teens who self-injure with Dr. Nixon, and contributed to a chapter on psycho-social interventions for youth who self-injure in the book Self-Injury in Youth: The Essential Guide to Assessment and Intervention.

This workshop took place March 19, 2010 at the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre in Vancouver, BC.
