once when i was little i saw a mommie racoon who got hit by a car and the babie sin her were on the asphalt and looked like those lil mandine oranges. it was sad

@lilksavage WRONG. I've worked for a certified wildlife rehabber for years, and this is the all-time #1 myth we have to dispel. It is very true that you should never approach a wild animal in general, but the assumption that raccoon during the day = rabid is very inaccurate. @Louloe is correct. There are many reasons for a raccoon to be out during the day-mommies taking care of their babies all night need to go out during daylight to eat, may have been separated from their den, etc.

@lilksavage Untrue! Mothers who have sleeping kits, will often travel out in the day for the extra time of foraging.
If an animal has Rabies, they will be dead quick, its a fast moving illness. 2 weeks. If they have distemper, they act like they are drunk, stumble and confused, which kills them slowly, months. If seen and possible, each should be humanly put down, or quardened off.
With Distemper, spray down area to with hose, to get rid of fecal matter and saliva. The main spread of it.

first of all its illegal to own any wild animal. Second, coons will bite the shit out of you, and/ or a child... its not a dog. bad idea.
