Reception of radio signals from the North Texas Balloon Project. The balloon was launched near Hillsboro, Texas, south of the DFW Metroplex. Read more about the project and its sponsors at the following URL:

Receiving antennas used:

HF - 4 element yagi at 60 feet AGL
2 meter beacon - 3219 yagi at 65 feet AGL
2 meter / 440 MHz cross-band repeater - dual band collinear vertical array at 12 feet AGL

  • Thats cool. Wish we were allowed to do that here in the UK but we are not allowed to have any airborn radio tx on band.

  • Really cool idea to use the voice synthesizer for telemetry as a compliment to APRS.

  • Great amount of participation on today's launch (Sept 17 2011) as stations from as far south as Houston transmitted through the cross-band repeater and as far north as Kansas copied the APRS data.

    The balloon reached about 80,000 feet before bursting too.
