Ernst's Erlkönig on a 1/8 Chinese Violin

No simplification but some easy ways out - slowing down the whole piece and at difficult spots, changing detaches to spiccatos, and sacrificing dynamics.

Last evening, I fixed my son's violin. While trying it, I found it somehow possible to play the piece on it. This morning, I played once and shot the video. This is, of course, for fun.

How old is your son? Must be pretty young. Im 10 yrs old and I need a 3/4 size Violin. =P

@GoNinty He'll be 6 yrs old in 2 mths. He is still playing the 1/8 violin but will probably change to a 1/4 violin a few months later.

One thing I'd like to comment on is your bow grip: the main thing is with the thumb, and pinkie. The pinkie needs to be placed on the nut, and not strained. The index finger works to control the bow pressure. From a side view, it should form a squished - C shape.

Your posture is important, you have to stand up straight, so the sound projects (muffled here) and (it feels for me) the bow is easier to control.

Thanks but the comments do not seem relevant to playing on a cheap 1/8 violin. jijijijiji so funny, the extreme opposite is Kristof Barati with the Vieuxtemps Guarneri, another cheap violin jojojojojo. only 18 millions of bucks. On the other hand i need to congratulate you, at least you have the fingers.

ha ha! That was awesome! you must know that piece very well to be able to play it on such a tiny violin! :) Especially since that is one of the hardest arrangements (of any piece) out there for violin, or so I've heard!
