Not the normal "zombie" because that's not possible as of now.

But technically, they were zombies as they believed they had no control over themselves due to believing that the witch doctor could bring back the dead.

They thought they were dead, and legally were dead, and they thought the witch doctor brought them back to do his bidding, so they believed they were a zombie and followed him blindly.

Same way psychologists get you to say things, tricking your mind.

Not technical game kind of zombies, but there were cases of "zombies" before.

A "witch doctor" used a type of fish venom that made people appear dead, after they were buried he would dig them up and convince them that they were now zombies and under his control.

The locals believed every word of it also, they were terrified of the "zombies"

Not zombies in the normal sense, but zombies nonetheless.
