  • Thanks kc8ntp....I had forgotten all about this video...I haven't had this truck in over a year, and honestly I regret getting rid of it. I put some heavier valve springs on the truck later on but I never could get it lined out completely...the thing would bend push rods for what seemed like no reason..I really feel like it had something to do with the timing....still it was a lot of fun, and the only motor I have ever built. Porting those damn heads took me two weeks in my living room!!

  • I ported the heads myself, so I spent probably around 60-80 bucks on materials and tools. I have no idea how much HP it was making. Not enough, or I would still have it haha

  • I don't have this truck anymore, but the motor was just a .30 over 350 with home ported 305 heads. Comp Cams 280H camshaft, Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock 600 carb, and Hooker Competition headers. The truck had no exhaust...just open headers. This truck loved to spin that one tire, because I never got around to upgrading the rear end. It was just a stock open differential with 2.70 somethings.

  • Thanks.

  • Comp Cam 268HE would have work better for your combo and have just about the same idle.

  • I know I'm about a year old, but I have this same cam in a 383 that I'm building and I would like to know what stall converter would you recommend? Book guys say 2500, but a few ppl who has the 280, claim 3000 stall works better with it. I pull alot, so torque is what I'm after

  • I had this same cam in my first car (74 Camaro) back in the 80's. It made great power on stock heads, and sounded great. Brings back memories...

  • Needed heavier valve springs, I tell you what; you could hear the valve-float around 5500RPMs. If that 3-fitty had better valve springs, it would have been an absolute screamer. Good job on the head porting, however: the way that thing would wind, that it a definite indicator that she was breathing! With my experience (20+ years of engine building), I would estimate that you were probably getting around 350HP +/- from the way she was accelerating.

  • just put the same cam in my '78 c10 stepside. cant wait to have the engine put back together

  • i had kind of same setup but home ported 305 heads, 350, 280 cam, and full lenght headers, ran out of steam at 4500 or less, had shit load of torque though, i could lose traction at 50km with posi, 2500 stall, stage 2 shift kit th350, i blow my motor, redoing her making 355 afr heads, and forged bottom end, i love your truck, nice pill out

  • how much did portin the heads set you back

  • how much est. hp were you pushin
