keep pressing 9 to clearly see what went wrong

hey looks like the spark hit the components!

Hey Mel,
You gotta build some more coils. Ive found that if you separate your primary caps in to two parts and put one part on each output of your bridge your coils will survive much more primary arcs. I dont give a shit what the others say this is the coils first land best line of defense second would be tvs diodes across the igbt's. Just came across this video again and though id comment.

You can get a real spankin from that thang. Now if you were using ignitrons you won't b having that trouble

it's not good wenn it sparks to it's self right?

Hi Tom,
Good to hear from you!
Thanks for the tip, i'll try separating my primary caps.
i've been following your success and ur doing great!
love your coils!
i haven'y been doing much coiling this year as i'm out
of work but hopefully i'll be back next year.
take care mate!

bummer, spark cage, good idea, but does it attract more hits now, affecting the coil visually?

Yes...the sparks hit the base cage
every few seconds but i'd rather that happen than a spark hitting my electronics and blowing up more transistors..hehe
I have since upgraded this coil using a different driver/controller, higher MMC cap (150nf) and slightly bigger secondary coil (14 inch x 4).....haven't had chance yet to push this coil, possibly will at the next Teslathon.

I think the spark hit my primary,
but its also possible it hit the electronics
so i've added a wire cage around the base now.
