During Question Period on December 1, 2009, NDP MP Charlie Angus raised concerns with Industry Minister Tony Clement relating to ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) and its non-transparent nature. Based upon leaked ACTA documents, it appears that once implemented ACTA will circumvent domestic copyright policy thus bringing into question the relevance of the Government's public consultations on copyright reform this past summer.

  • Angus asks ATCA to be tabled and Clement's reply is to go to Micheal Geist's website?! What the hell?! It's Clement's responsibility to WORK FOR AND INFORM THE PEOPLE!

And btw from my understanding of to the leaked ACTA negotiations watching this video would be illegal, and thus your first strike.

    Fucking shameful.

  • Down with ACTA! It is not necessary, Canadians don't want it, its a threat to our rights, and we should be making our own copyright laws based on the copyright consultation's findings...not based on US corporate wishes.

I go to Michael's blog daily and I am very thankful it exists to expose these goons in power, but shouldn't my Government be giving me information on treaties like this directly rather than through a blog built upon leaks and rumours?

  • @majortuff I'm not so sure. For his sake, he probably has to, if he wants to maintain his leadership of the conservative party. It was embarrassing that he wasn't able to pull it off on a liberal leader so pathetic as dion.

  • Harper will win a majority.

  • I hope we go back to the poles. The cons got too go

  • Transparency, does it even exist? The Canadian public is left in the dark on this issue.

"That the fact of the matter is Mr Speaker, Anything that goes on in ACTA is compleately subserviant to what we as parliamentrians descide on this issue"... that right there speaks to me, Isin't partliament supposed to represent the interest of Canadian's? If we don't know.. how can we say?

Where did democracy go? </3 I heard of what it was supposed to be, but I just don't see it anymore.

  • Clement lies.

  • Shit needs transparency and the public should have some say in the matter. FUCK these corporate assholes. They all looking like two timing weasels who feed off the poor.
