@titarse100 is the story over though. point about independence is that if the government isn't good enough the people can sack them. that couldn't happen under occupation. i think you want a bonevolent government and you blame republicanism for not providing it. western democracy is based on the principle that a bonevolent government is a nieveity that oversight of the people is needed dublin has a very proud republican tradition. only an ignorant of history would argue otherwise

@titarse100 Even when you look at that fuckin eejit Blaney and the building of Ballymun- anything was good enough for the tenament dwellers of the inner city and he never foresaw the consequences..after all weren't most dubs probritish anyhow (jackeens..waving union jacks) and most culchies were dedicated land league/ republicans. Even walk around Darndale and you'll see how sucessive republican governments couldn't give a fuck about the rest of us

@davidshane57Well, in a way small farmers did do well but then again wasn't the whole drive for freedom based on farmers owning the land they rented from the landlords? And these people became the republicans too and made sure they did well out of it after they came into power- for example my father's family were able to buy their county council cottage in 1926 at a knocked down price...and yet it was well into the 2000's before dublin corporation offered the same deal to the dubs

@titarse100 the 26 conties did well in terms of social mobility since the foundation of the state. my grand parents where small famers who never got to secondary school. one of my parents did most of my cousins got to 3rd level, each generation had more oportunities than the next. maybe it should have happened quicker hardly kevins fault though is it. yes there where mistakes which we corrected. before that there where mistakes that we had to endure. important distinction.

@davidshane57 well lets make it simple.....if you were in syria right now who would you think is oppressing you..the jews, the americans or your own people who couldn't give a hoot about their fellow syrians only about holding on to power for themselves and their kids? Now lets pretend we are in ireland a few years after kevin's death and I'm one of the comrades he didn't tout on...am I worried about my fellow irishmen living in poverty or am worried about losing power
-
@titarse100 do irish people blame the brits for all there woes's? out side of the injustice's of partition iam not sure they do. i don't know a lot about the middle east so i won't comment but reading your broad stroke comment iam not sure you do or should either.
-
@FreedomSaoirse Too right. Fucking shoot the lot of them, the bastards. Those who are not with us are against us afterall. It's as simple as that. They're guilty of crimes against Roisin Dubh not to mention the shilroct , Ir, Oir is Eibhear. Who the fuck are we shooting now? Irish freedom is so complex
-
@davidshane57 Yes, if only the people of northern ireland were free of the brits and basking in irish republicanism with its long tradition of putting you in an unmarked grave if you so much as cross the fuckers. Cop on. Grow up irish people and use your brains. Are we like those idiots in the middle east who blame america for all their woes while their fellow countrymen oppress them. The republicans are a bunch of creepy sods who bury defenseless women in the ground
-
@titarse100 she was born lived and died in the north not sure how your argument fits. that area remained under british control and remained messed up or is your argument were damned if we do and damned if we don't. possibly but i would still prefer choice and the freedom to make the wrong decision that have the wrong decision be forced upon me.

@davidshane57 Jean McConville must not have known about the rights and freedoms the dead generations won her then. So, sad. We swop one set of tyrants for our own and call it freedom. I guess no one saw the irony that poor Kevin and the boys were left in a criminals grave until Bertie wanted his buddies to build apartments on the site of Mountjoy ??
Paul gives Kevin Barry the nobility, dignity and deepest beauty this lovely memorial deserves. Paul was a father too singing to a dead son -no one can give this music such deep feeling

The beautiful baritone voice of Paul Robeson makes this the best recording of Kevin Barry.
