I've had this sequencer for some time now. I just didn't have a sound module to play with it. I finally decided to get one(used of course, just like the sequencer). I'm still trying to learn some ins and outs with these machines. I've just recently learned how to put some things together with the Q-80. I don't have a manual for the u-220. Thank God for allowing me to know what I do know. Decided to share with the world what I've come up with for the past few weeks of fishing. This is a portion of "Candy" by Cameo. I was just seeing what sounds were available and heard the deep base and said to myself, how far could I take it. This is the result. At least for now. Hope you enjoy and God Bless.

  • is there any page how to use the kawai q80 as i have no idea how it works as no manual

  • @JOCKATEO Don't know of any. I don't have a manual for the U-220. Haven't played with that stuff for awhile now. When I bought it, thank God the manual was taped to it. Not so much for the Roland U though. Good luck. I can help get you stated on some things though when time permits.

  • @JOCKATEO

Not that I know of. I can help get you started on some things though. I found out that I needed a sound module in order for it to record. I only had a keyboard and the Q for awhile. Talking a couple of years before I bothered to get a U-220 off of ebay (mind you, no manual for it.) God Bless and hope you find success.

  • This is an incredibly stupid question, so I apologize in advance, but what exactly does the Q-80 do? There's one for sale at a pawn shop in town and I'm considering buying it but I don't have the slightest clue what it does or how to use it :P

  • @Jessenator Not stupid. Not asking would sum it up. I had same questions when I bought it from Goodwill in my area. I had the Q-80 and finally went to Guitar Center and asked someone what else did I need with the sequencer because the keyboard was not recording nothing I played. Keyboard for notes, "Roland U220" module for sound, "Q-80" sequencer to arrange sounds, orchestrate or conduct. This is nothing more than a workstation with separate components. Glad I bought it. Still Learning.

  • i have owned a Q-80 for 20 years now, use it in all my shows, it gives me my bass, piano, drums. people don't realize the time involved in programing your songs, they just hear the end result. and no folks its not karioke any questions on the Q friend just contact me.

  • Thanks so much.

I too use my Q80 for sequencing on the run... I had mine converted to general midi quite some time back... I dont believe that the U220 is GM so you will have to program all your drums for the most part...

  • I have the q-80 and a manual. I like it alot. But, the dials are now acting up. When I spin the main dial to scroll through items it misses alot (where you spin the dial and nothing scrolls). I'd like to find software to control it with to get around that problem.

  • @MichaelKhanTV The Q-80 can quantize too, I'm guessing DoggBoy just didn't find it yet. ;-) Get (or read) the manual, there's much usefull stuff in there.

  • you should just get protools and work in there, so you can quantize and it will sound nice. i'm about to get a u-220!
