For today's woodworker, the simple and adaptable router has become an essential tool for profiling, shaping and joining wood. Router Boss is a new joinery machine that securely supports both the router and the wood and allows you to work in a creative way that offers control without being constrained by the tooling. You can manage a cut in any dimension and precisely cut virtually every joint in the book.

  • The comparison to the Woodrat is obvious. It would appear that for once an American company "Borrowed" a design from a foreign company. I don't have a problem with that. But one thing is for sure, both products have a very steep learning curve. It looks like a very well designed and capable machine but I'd bet it takes at least a couple of full days before you get comfortable with using it on expensive wood. It also looks like that for some tasks there are quicker and just as accurate jigs.

  • @SnakeCityCages It is woodworking that has a steep learning cut, not the tools. All good tool designs borrow from other good tools and improve upon them. WoodRat and Router Boss are different in that they are designed to cut a wide range of joinery. You can cut a mortise on a hollow chisel mortiser, but you can't cut the tenon, panel groove and raised panel for a door. When you cut multiple joinery on the same machine one setup can often lead to or be saved for the next.

  • I guess IT IS a Woodrat, if it looks like one, feels like one, does the same as, then it is one.

BUT.....A car is a car, 4 wheels, an engine etc. we can't expect ONE manufacturer to have the monopoly on that kind of transport, and it brings out the best with new modifications etc.

The question is..which is the best in this case..I have a Woodrat, and it works for me, you can make just about anything with it, size is the only restriction, if that were changed..you COULD make anything.out of wood!

  • Router Boss is similar in concept, but does not share any parts with WoodRat. WoodRat is made in England. Router Boss is made in the USA and has a USA patent.

WoodRat does NOT have these Router Boss features:

-Ability to remove any play in sliding bar

    -Positive stops for dovetail angles

-Ability to create dovetail layouts on your computer

    -Digital display of cut location

-Aluminum rather than phenolic router support

    -Built-in dust collection

-Mortise table and other work holders

  • isn't this a "WOODRAT" ????

  • Dudes got ears!
