  • Will never be another Amalia, a great portuguese ambassador! Aquele timbre fantástico é irrepetível» ( 7.12.2008, in revista Pública )

  • ...

  • It's pathetic to say this, but she was Portuguese, neither fascist, nor communist, nor anything! Yes, she was used by the 'Estado Novo' - the dictatorial regime - as a national icone! But that's EXACTLY what she was! Shortly after 1974, there were people calling her a scoundrel, a member of the former secret police, etc, allegations that have all been proved to be untrue! Did she help the communist party? Maybe, maybe not, noone nows it really! She was unpolitical & naturally national & patriot!

  • @astroidy All you have to do is go to google,....write, hi lili hi lo"Amalia Rodrigues"

Small print. You should get it otherwise add "youtube" at the end.Good luck

  • No she wasn't pro Salazar. After the revolution, 'hysteria' and paranoia settled in towards intellectuals and artists with regards to their political views... But after she died it was said that, during the fascism, she gave money to the communist party to help support the struggle of the intellectuals and artists exiled abroad.

  • Such an obvious thing to say, but so Portuguese. Fado and saudades, and those little custard cakes. Ah, Portugal...

Check out some of Mil i Maria's Portuguese-language songs on MySpace for something different, but similar.

  • i love you

  • non of them.. she wasn't on politics she didint pick any side. but the people thought that she shoud be against Salazar.. and so it started to apeear some myths ald false stories against her, but after 25/74 she was loved again by her people!!
