Yeah.
Not to disrespect the guy, but it seems he's been playing too many riffs and not working on actual harmonies and solos. He's very sloppy when it comes to playing lead.
Still, if he wants to play rhythm, that's cool.

hes doing good for playign only 3 years, idk if anyone else is like this but it seems like playing metal came easier after learning alot of other styles, lot of power coming through teh guitar to those strings, gotta have good control over it. and most metal players heros usually know alot more style that helps them inorperate it into there metal, so id imagine starting off only learning metal would slow down learning a bit and make it seem more difficult
