FRIENDS - Far And Away (1987) (Audio)

Friends formed in early 1986 in Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland, England. The band was intended as a vehicle for the songs of William Jones, who was working at the Dovecot Arts Centre in Stockton as Music Officer. The early band was closely associated with the Dovecot, rehearsing and often performing there as part of a regular flow of independent bands both from the region and elsewhere who formed the burgeoning independent music scene of the time

This takes me back to the heady days of the Dovecot Arts Centre throughout the 1980s and WIlliam Jones as the music officer. We saw some great indie bands - Age of Chance, Asphalt Ribbons, Band of Holy Joy, Bodines, Edwyn Collins, Felt, Housemartins, June Brides, Jamie Wednesday, Shamen, Triffids, Television Personalities, Voice of the Beehive, Weather Prophets, the Wedding Present & Yeah Yeah Noh. This was William's own band and the best track they ever did IMO. Cheers Mr Jones!
