Arrival of Gottwald HMK 170 crane

Spectacular images were seen on Wednesday, July 13th 2011, at the Queen Wilhelmina Port in Vlaardingen. Around 14:00pm the new port crane of Hooymeijer Port Terminals BV (HPT) arrived. The crane, that was loaded on a barge the day before in the port of Antwerp, landed after a successful trip at its destination. With military precision, the new asset was moved from the ponton on the quay within 3 hours.

"The great thing of this operation is to have it done with our own equipment," says Pepijn van Rijn, co-owner of HPT. "For Our stevedores and our colleagues at Van Rijn Machine Moving this is more or less a routine because they are used to special assignments."

The new crane, a Gottwald HMK 170, has a range of 38 meters and a maximum lifting capacity of 63 tons, is unique in the port of Vlaardingen. With the use of this crane, the port operations of HPT and in particular the handling of break bulk goods can be expanded. And more expansion is in sight with the planned renovation of the quay wall in the first quarter of 2012. This iconic crane is visible when you drive out of the Benelux tunnel.

Via mother company Embassy Freight, HPT provides all logistic solutions in one hand. "With the purchase of this crane, we put another big step forward," concludes van Rijn.

The crane was officially inaugurated by alderman Versluijs of Vlaardingen, at July 19, 2011 .
