AMSTI:
Major changes must be made in math and science instruction if students are to develop the 21st century knowledge and skills needed for success in the workforce and to make well-informed decisions as citizens. The Alabama Department of Education's initiative, called AMSTI, is leading the way in such reform. AMSTI teachers receive high quality professional develop that is both subject and grade specific, are supplied all of the equipment and materials needed for students to learn by being engaged in "doing" math and science, and are provided on site, "in the classroom" mentoring that allows them to become proficient in this new way of teaching. When taught the "AMSTI way," student test scores show dramatic increases and student interest and excitement for math and science sharply increases.
