This is a great video!!! Did you hear the horse breathing in such a relaxed way at the canter. Boy those two were in sync. To the person who suggested Buck try dressage - my sense is he has - elements of the training he is doing here is based on the principles of dressage. Really nice video!

Buck should give dressage a try :) I want that horse.

Ya know Mike, seven years is a long time. I wish I could put that much time on each horse, but there are plenty of horses sold just as broke and just as quiet by the time they are 5. That means roughly 2 to 3 years of riding with a snaffle switched to a shank bit. I appreciate the vaquerro style but it is not the end all of horsemanship like some people try to make it. For a working cowboy, time is money.

@ArcoRudy Exactly! When you push the shoulders, you are asking for the horse to stop falling into the circle via its shoulders and to start using its hindend to accomplish the whole circle!

@jennrummy Those spade bits are different than everyone thinks. Right now, the horse is teaching itself to hold the bit, the bosal helps the rider cue the horse, for now. The spade tells the horse where to properly place its head, too high, spade touches the roof, head too low or behind the bit, spade touches the tongue. What they also do is that the horses are taught to hold the bit, instead of it just sitting there like a typical curb. After the bosal, the horse can be ridden with a pinky.

Looks lovely.... but Isn't the bit with the long shank applying a lot of poll pressure keeping his head down?
-
I think what this person might have seen is Buck intentionally counterbending the horse to put the shoulders where he wanted them on the circle.

you must be watching a different video than i am. sorry, but i don't see where that horse is bent incorrectly.

nice horse, looks dressage like, but horse is all the time bent to the right ie going to the right and going to the left.
Thanks for asking! No the long shank has no role at this time as all the requests are being on on the "bosalito' not the bit! At this stage please watch more carefully on the "2 rein" the ultimate art in last two years of "creating a True Bidle Horse!" This is really hard for people to see, but the horse knows! Rebel here, has spent 3 yrs in the snaffle, and could read, write, do caluculus, long before this! Then Rebel moved through the 3 stages to bridle horse that when don right, takes 7 ys
