Recording from 5th August 2010 with H. A. Stamm at the restored Buchholz organ in St. Nikolai, Stralsund, Germany. As you see, the pedal of this instrument of the romantic period (1841) is still shorter than nowadays and makes a pedal playing technique using the heels difficult. The silvery, but soft 16 foot based plenum sound and the majestic bass stops providing three 32'' stops and a 10 2/3' stop produce an impressive awe-inspiring effect. The big wegde-shaped bellow system in connection with the high wind pressure of 90 mm water column determine how stable the wind is in certain staccato chord progressions, the little vibrations being the special charme of such historic organs (I had that also when recording some great Bach pieces on the Trost organ in Waltershausen in 2000). Thanks to the organist Matthias Pech and the parish of St. Nikolai for the permission to play concerts here in the vacation time July and August 2010.
