All I know that there was a lot of talent in the mid-late 60s--Dylan, Lennon, Harrison, McCartney, Simon, many others, including Donovan. The BEST is a matter of personal opinion.

donovan is an esoteric ceremonial band that displays the raw power of emotion as the same as bob or any movement and protest band

Bob Dylan continued to grow and expand, Donovan didn't.

Bob Dylan is an entirely different artist. Dylan went a different direction. But Donovan explored the psychedelic English underground of Indian Ragas and medieval minstrel music whereas Dylan veered towards country-rock. Plus Donovan had a beautiful singing voice and a great finger picking technique. Sorry, but Dylan's guitar was pretty basic strumming,

my stars, no need to be impolite. i suppose the ramones and the dickies sound identical? little richard and jerry lee? the dressings are the same-- steel-string guitar, harmonica, folks songs (like neil young too), but donovan's singing and lyrics inspired syd barrett (pink floyd founder), marc bolan, peter daltrey (kaleidoscope), more than dylan did. donovan also could sing much better technically than dylan. the surface doesn't mean much, if anything. one isn't better but they are different.

I wonder if any of those dissin' Donovan here even remember the 70s. Remember the Coffee houses, parks, beaches, clubs, and all the venues of soulful solo folk artists like Donovan. And in those circles Dylan, not Elvis, was King. And in those circles if one's music resembled Dylan's. . . well, it was a high form of praise, not something which was disparaged.
